Lost and Found items will be donated on March 1st to clear space. Please go to the Parent Coordinator Room on the first floor of the Middle School Building, if your child is missing anything. There are four huge boxes of items that have been sitting around for a while. We will also have all items out at the next PTA meeting, on February 15 at 7:00pm. Thank you for your cooperation!

For parents who were unable to attend the Learning Leaders training in January, an additional shortened 1 day training will be offered to our school in February in NYC: date, time and location TBD.

Shutterfly Fundraiser! The PTA will earn a 13% commission when customers click through the PS/IS 78Q PTA storefront and make a purchase at Shutterfly, TinyPrints, Wedding Paper Divas & BorrowLenses, so please share the link with your friends and family.

We need Volunteers! We kindly ask that every family volunteer at least two hours per month for the school. Please read on and fill out the Volunteer form.

SPRING GALA

We are thrilled to announce that the PTA will be hosting its fifth annual Spring Gala and Auction on Monday evening, May 8, 2017 from 6-9pm at beautiful Maiella Restaurant located on the LIC waterfront.

Last year, this event was our most successful fundraiser, with a net profit of $40,000. Family members and friends in the LIC community came together for a fun night out to benefit our school. The evening will again feature delicious cuisine, open bar with wine and well drinks, live music, silent auction and door prizes.

Let's make this year our best year yet and raise enough money to continue our wonderful programs, including our recess pilot program, and add more wonderful enrichment opportunities for all students! We are all members of the PTA, and the more money we raise, the more influence we can have over our children's education experiences!

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Volunteer! Help us solicit and organize auction items and help create our gala program. We know your time is valuable so we will work around your schedules! Sponsorship and Auction Form Packet

Ideas for Auction items:

We need people to canvas Long Island City Businesses to help secure valuable donations! Donate! Every donation, no matter the size, is the key to the auction’s success. Your donation is tax deductible.

Attend! Tickets will be sold for $95 in advance, $100 at the door-invite friends and family! We need to sell at least 150 tickets to help cover our costs!

Linked here is our Sponsorship and Auction Form Packet which can be emailed or printed for anyone to solicit monetary donations and/or silent auction items. It is also fillable online. Our official letter and invite will follow shortly as we are working on creating a website that will allow anyone to donate and purchase tickets for the event.

NEW YEARS WELLNESS INITIATIVE

We are so excited to announce our partnership with OurHarvest an amazing farmers market delivery service that is based in Long Island City.

OurHarvest has set PS/IS 78 up with an ambassador coupon code and tracking page. They will be donating 3% of sales to the PTA of PS/IS78 (up to a total spend per person of $5,000). The coupon code PSIS78 will give every member of our community 25% off your first order and free delivery. Anyone who uses that code will be automatically counted in the 3% donation program going forward (you will only be able to use the coupon once, but you will be able to automatically track all future orders). OurHarvest is launching delivery in LIC on Monday evenings with two delivery windows 5-7pm and 7-9pm, and our first delivery date is this coming Monday, January 9th.

The is a wonderful way to get our children fresh fruits and vegetables, support our local community and raise money for our school.

About PS/IS 78Q PTA

The PS/IS 78Q Parent Teachers Association, founded in June of 2008, is a registered 501(c)3 not for profit organization established to help support the PS/IS 78 Robert F. Wagner Jr. public school located in Long Island City, Queens. Every parent or primary caregiver of a child who attends PS/IS 78Q is a member of the PTA.

We remain committed to enriching the learning experiences of our children. This year, not only do we want to continue funding the efforts we have supported in the past, our goal is to also seek out and provide new opportunities for our children.

Mission Statement: The PS/IS 78Q PTA is committed to academic excellence, creativity, and wellness. We aim to create an environment that sparks intellectual curiosity by fostering the social, moral, physical, and emotional development of each child. We strive to build a strong and engaged parent community to support the efforts and vision of our school.

What is the PTA? The main purpose of the Parent Teacher Association is to support the school and, therefore, benefit your child. As a parent, guardian or person in parental relation to a child in the school, you are a member of the PTA.
